ALL Riders must be 21 years of age and be legally licensed to operate a Motorcycle
with the appropriate endorsement documentation on their driver’s license. All Riders
must carry proof of insurance. Various state laws are in effect regarding use of
a Motorcycle on public roads without an endorsement, which may include impounding
of the bike, and/or fines. Backroad Escape Tours Inc will not be responsible for
any fees or costs incurred for violation of these requirements. |
Printable Version of Requirements |
All licensed and endorsed riders on all makes and models of motorcycles are welcome
on the tours. We recommend that riders have 2 or more seasons of riding experience.
While it is up to the individual to determine what they are capable of handling,
it is necessary that the participants have sufficient experience and skill to comfortably
ride distances of up to 280 miles per day on a variety terrain and unpredictable
northwest weather. We also recommended bikes with 500 cc’s or more.
These are recommendations only and Backroad Escape Tours will not have the responsibility
of checking or determining if a rider or a motorcycle is road-worthy or appropriate
for tours. All motorcycles must comply with state and local laws regarding safety
equipment and noise. Motorcycles out of compliance of these laws are not suitable
for the tours. Testing and mechanical verification of the motorcycles is the responsibility
of the participant. If you have any questions about matching tours and riding experience,
please feel free to contact us.
Riding Gear – We are passionate proponents of safe motorcycle riding. It is required
that each participant, whether rider or passenger, use a DOT approved riding helmet
while riding in Washington State, Oregon and Montana. Although there are some states
we may travel that have helmet-free or age-restricted law (such ad Idaho), we STRONGLY
promote helmet use at all times while riding, regardless of the law.
Leather or Fabric style Jackets specifically designed for motorcycling are recommended
for safe riding. Secure, appropriate clothing and suitable foot wear will make your
ride safe and comfortable. It is not recommended that participants ride without
safety gear and clothing (ie: bare arms and/or shorts). Although we will be traveling
in daylight hours for a majority of the tours, it is also recommended that each
rider has visible safety clothing/vests for high visibility. Washington is known
for its’ rain and unpredictable weather conditions. We will be riding in whatever
Mother Nature dishes out, so having appropriate rain gear is strongly suggested.
